How to Set Up Two-Factor Authentication

Secure your online accounts by setting up two-factor authentication. Follow these steps to enable 2FA for robust digital protection.

  1. Download an authenticator application. Install a dedicated authenticator app on your smartphone, such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or 2FAS. These apps generate time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) that are more secure than SMS-based codes.
  2. Access your account security settings. Log into the service you wish to secure via a web browser. Navigate to the Account Settings or Security menu, usually located under your profile icon or a gear icon.
  3. Select Two-Factor Authentication. Locate the section labeled Two-Factor Authentication, 2FA, or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Click the button labeled Enable or Set Up to initiate the configuration wizard.
  4. Scan the QR code. A QR code will appear on your computer screen. Open your authenticator app, tap the plus (+) icon, and select Scan a QR code to link your account.
  5. Confirm the authentication code. Enter the six-digit code currently displayed in your authenticator app into the verification box on the web page. Click Submit or Verify to finalize the binding process.
  6. Save your recovery codes. The system will generate a set of one-time recovery codes. Copy these codes and store them in a secure physical location or an encrypted password manager.
