Automate Your Weekly Planning Checklist in Notion

Streamline your productivity by automating a recurring weekly planning checklist using Notion databases and template triggers.

  1. Create the planning template. Open your target database and click the arrow next to the blue New button. Select + New template to open the template editor. Populate the body of the page with your recurring checklist items using the /checklist command.
  2. Set the repeat interval. In the template editor, click the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner. Select Repeat and toggle the frequency to Weekly. Choose the specific day of the week and the time you prefer the task to generate.
  3. Finalize template automation. Confirm your settings in the Repeat menu and click Save. The database will now automatically instantiate a new page using this template at your scheduled time. You can verify the automation status by the circular arrow icon appearing next to the template name in the database menu.
  4. Configure a filtered view. Create a new Board or Table view for your database. Apply a filter to only show tasks where the Name contains Weekly Sync or matches the tag assigned to your recurring template. This isolates your planning pages from your daily task stream.
  5. Test the recurrence. Test the automation by manually selecting your new template from the New button menu to ensure all checklist items populate correctly. If the items appear, your automation is ready. Delete the test page to keep your workspace clean.
