How to Use Clipchamp for Video Editing

Learn to edit videos in Clipchamp with this complete guide covering importing media, cutting clips, adding effects, and exporting your finished video.

  1. Create a new project. Navigate to clipchamp.com and sign in with your Microsoft account. Click the 'Create a video' button on the main dashboard. Select your aspect ratio from the options: 16:9 for landscape videos, 9:16 for vertical social media content, or 1:1 for square posts.
  2. Import your media files. Click the 'Import media' button in the left panel. Select 'Browse my files' to upload videos, images, or audio from your computer. You can also connect cloud storage services like OneDrive or Google Drive. Drag files directly into the media library or use the file browser.
  3. Add clips to the timeline. Drag your video clips from the media library to the timeline at the bottom of the screen. The timeline shows your project chronologically from left to right. Position clips in the order you want them to appear in your final video.
  4. Trim and split your clips. Click on a clip in the timeline to select it. Drag the handles at either end of the clip to trim unwanted sections. To split a clip at a specific point, position the playhead where you want to cut and press Ctrl+B (Cmd+B on Mac) or use the scissors icon.
  5. Add text and graphics. Click the 'Text' tab in the left panel to browse title templates and text styles. Drag a text element onto the timeline above your video track. Double-click the text in the preview window to edit the content. Adjust font, size, color, and position using the properties panel on the right.
  6. Apply transitions and effects. Access the 'Transitions' tab to add smooth connections between clips. Drag a transition between two clips on the timeline. For visual effects, select a clip and open the 'Filters' tab to apply color corrections, vintage looks, or creative filters. Adjust intensity using the slider controls.
  7. Add background music and adjust audio. Click the 'Audio' tab to browse Clipchamp's music library or upload your own audio files. Drag music to the audio track below your video timeline. Adjust volume levels by selecting the audio clip and using the volume slider. Enable 'Auto-mix' to automatically balance music with dialogue.
  8. Export your finished video. Click the 'Export' button in the top-right corner. Choose your quality setting: 480p for basic sharing, 720p for standard HD, or 1080p for high-definition output. Click 'Continue' and wait for processing to complete. Download the finished video file to your computer.
