Master the basics of Canva. Learn how to create professional designs, use templates, and export your projects with this step-by-step guide.
- Select a design template. Log into your Canva dashboard. Click the 'Create a design' button in the top right corner and choose a dimension preset, or enter custom width and height values in the search bar to initialize your canvas.
- Add and format elements. Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to 'Elements'. Search for shapes, lines, or graphics and click them to add them to your canvas. Use the top toolbar to adjust colors, transparency, and layering positions.
- Insert and style typography. Select 'Text' from the sidebar and click 'Add a text box'. Type your content, then use the font dropdown menu at the top of the editor to change the typeface, size, and weight. Adjust letter spacing or text effects like shadows through the 'Effects' button.
- Upload custom assets. Click the 'Uploads' tab in the left-hand panel. Drag and drop your image or video files directly from your computer into the upload window. Once the upload finishes, click the file to place it onto your active design.
- Organize design layers. Right-click any element on the canvas to open the layer menu. Select 'Layer' and choose 'Bring Forward' or 'Send Backward' to manage the visual stacking order of your graphics and text boxes.
- Export your project. Click the 'Share' button in the top right corner. Select 'Download' and choose your preferred file type, such as PNG for images or PDF Print for documents. Adjust the quality settings if necessary and click 'Download' to save the file to your device.
