How to Resize Images Without Losing Quality

Learn the professional method to resize images while maintaining visual fidelity using Adobe Photoshop and Preview. No pixelation, no quality loss.

1. Open the Image Size dialogue. Launch Adobe Photoshop and open your target image file. Navigate to the top menu bar, select Image, then click Image Size. Alternatively, use the command shortcut to access the panel immediately.
2. Enable constraint proportions. Ensure the link icon between Width and Height is toggled to the active state. This locks the aspect ratio, preventing image distortion or stretching when modifying dimensions.
3. Select the correct resampling algorithm. Locate the Resample dropdown menu at the bottom of the panel. Choose Bicubic Sharper (reduction) if you are downsizing, or Bicubic Smoother (enlargement) if you are increasing image size.
4. Define new output dimensions. Enter your desired pixel values in the Width or Height fields. Verify that the resolution is set to 72 pixels/inch for web use, or 300 pixels/inch if the file is intended for professional print media.
5. Save the file using Export As. Do not use Save As. Navigate to File, hover over Export, and select Export As. Select PNG or JPEG, set quality to 100%, and ensure Convert to sRGB is checked to maintain color accuracy across all displays.
