How to Edit Videos on iPhone

Edit videos directly on your iPhone using the built-in Photos app. Learn to trim, add filters, adjust speed, and export your finished videos.

  1. Open the video in Photos app. Launch the Photos app and navigate to the video you want to edit. Tap the video thumbnail to open it in full screen view. Tap Edit in the top-right corner to enter editing mode.
  2. Trim the video length. Drag the yellow handles at the beginning and end of the timeline to set your start and end points. The white section shows what will be kept in the final video. Tap the play button to preview your trimmed video.
  3. Apply filters and adjust colors. Tap the three overlapping circles icon to access filters. Swipe through options like Vivid, Dramatic, or Silvertone. Use the intensity slider below to control the filter strength. Tap the dial icon to manually adjust exposure, brilliance, highlights, shadows, contrast, brightness, black point, saturation, warmth, vignette, and definition.
  4. Adjust playback speed. Tap the speedometer icon to access speed controls. Drag the slider left to slow down your video (0.5x to 1x) or right to speed it up (1x to 2x). The timeline expands or contracts to show the new duration.
  5. Crop and straighten the video. Tap the crop icon to adjust framing. Drag the corners to crop the video or use preset aspect ratios like 16:9 or 1:1. Use the dial at the bottom to straighten tilted footage. Tap the flip icon to mirror the video horizontally.
  6. Save your edited video. Tap Done to save changes. Choose Save Video to create a new edited copy while keeping the original, or Save Video as New Clip to save only the edited version. The processing time depends on video length and the number of edits applied.
