How to Create Social Media Graphics in Canva

Master Canva design workflows to create professional social media graphics. Follow this step-by-step guide to templates, layout tools, and exports.

  1. Select the correct dimensions. Log in to your Canva dashboard and click the Create a design button. Select a specific social media template from the dropdown menu, such as Instagram Post (Square) or TikTok Video, to ensure optimal resolution and aspect ratios for your target platform.
  2. Apply your brand identity. Navigate to the Brand tab in the left-hand sidebar to apply your saved color palette and typography styles to the template. If you have a Brand Kit, click the Shuffle button to automatically cycle through your brand color combinations until you find the desired contrast.
  3. Manage layers and elements. Right-click any element on the canvas to open the Layer menu. Select Show layers to view the stacking order and drag elements up or down to adjust their position, ensuring your text remains legible and front-facing.
  4. Apply image adjustments. Select your background image or graphic and click Edit photo in the top toolbar. Use the Adjust tab to calibrate brightness, contrast, and saturation to ensure your image pops on mobile screens.
  5. Export for social platforms. Click the Share button in the top right corner and select Download. Choose PNG for static graphics requiring high detail or MP4 Video for motion graphics, then click Download to save the file locally.
