How to Resolve Missing Fonts in Design Files
Restore missing typography in your design projects. Learn how to locate, activate, and replace missing font assets in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma.
- Identify the missing font names. Open your design file and observe the warning dialog box upon launch. In Adobe applications, look for the yellow warning icon next to the affected text layers in the Layers panel. Note the specific family and weight names displayed in the Missing Fonts dialog.
- Sync via Adobe Creative Cloud. Navigate to the Creative Cloud desktop application and select the Fonts tab. If the fonts are Adobe Fonts, ensure your subscription is active and the sync toggle is enabled. If they appear in your list, click Activate to automatically download them to your local system.
- Install local font files manually. If you possess the font files (.otf or .ttf) locally, locate them in your Finder or File Explorer. Right-click the files and select Install for all users. Ensure the system font book or font manager recognizes the newly added files before proceeding.
- Replace missing fonts globally. If the original fonts are unavailable, use the global search and replace function. In Adobe InDesign, go to Type > Find/Replace Font. Select the missing font in the list and choose a locally installed replacement from the Replace With dropdown menu.
- Resolve Figma local font errors. If you are using the Figma desktop app, download and install the Figma Font Helper from the application preferences. Go to Figma > Preferences > Font Helper to ensure it is running. This allows Figma to access fonts installed locally on your machine that are not available in the web browser version.
- Clear the application font cache. If fonts appear installed but fail to display, purge the temporary font cache. For Adobe apps, navigate to your user Library folder, enter Caches, and delete the Adobe Font Cache folder. Restart your system to force a clean reload of all active system fonts.
