How to Configure and Launch Zoom Meetings
A direct guide to installing, configuring, and initiating your first video meeting using the Zoom desktop client.
- Download and install the Zoom desktop client. Navigate to the official Zoom download portal in your web browser. Select the package designated for your operating system and execute the installer file. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation and move the application to your Applications folder.
- Adjust audio and video preferences. Launch Zoom and select the Settings icon represented by the gear symbol in the top right corner. Navigate to the Video tab to confirm your camera feed is active and select your desired resolution. Open the Audio tab to test your microphone levels and designate your output device for system audio.
- Initialize a new meeting. Select the orange New Meeting button on the main dashboard to begin an immediate session. If scheduling for the future, select the Schedule button to set the date, time, and security passcode requirements. Copy the invitation link provided to share with participants.
- Invite participants during an active call. While inside the meeting window, locate the Participants button in the bottom navigation bar. Select Invite at the bottom of the side panel to copy the meeting link or send an email invitation directly. Use the generated link to allow guests to join instantly.
- Share your screen content. Click the green Share Screen icon centered in the bottom control dock. Select the specific application window or the full desktop display you intend to show. Click Share to push your visual output to all meeting attendees.
- Terminate the meeting session. Locate the red End button in the bottom right corner of the meeting interface. Choose End Meeting for All to disconnect all participants simultaneously. This ensures the virtual room is vacated and the connection is fully severed.
