How to Fix Zoom Audio Not Working

Fix Zoom audio issues with these proven troubleshooting steps. Resolve microphone, speaker, and connection problems in minutes.

  1. Check your audio device connections. Verify your microphone and speakers are properly connected to your computer. For USB devices, unplug and reconnect them. For wireless devices, confirm they're paired and connected. Test your audio with another application like Voice Recorder or iTunes to confirm the hardware works.
  2. Test Zoom audio settings. Open Zoom and click the gear icon in the top right corner. Select Audio from the left sidebar. Click Test Mic to record and play back your voice. Click Test Speaker to hear a ringtone. If either test fails, select different devices from the Microphone and Speaker dropdown menus.
  3. Verify system audio permissions. On Mac: Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab > Microphone. Check the box next to Zoom. On Windows: Open Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Toggle 'Allow apps to access your microphone' to On and ensure Zoom is enabled in the list below.
  4. Update your audio drivers. On Windows: Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand 'Audio inputs and outputs' and 'Sound, video and game controllers.' Right-click each audio device and select 'Update driver.' On Mac: Audio drivers update automatically with system updates through System Preferences > Software Update.
  5. Restart Zoom's audio service. Close Zoom completely using Task Manager on Windows or Activity Monitor on Mac. Wait 10 seconds, then reopen Zoom. Join a test meeting or use the audio test feature again. This clears temporary audio conflicts and reestablishes connections to your audio devices.
  6. Configure Windows audio settings. Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray and select 'Open Sound settings.' Under Input, select your microphone and click Device properties. Set the volume to 70-80% and disable audio enhancements. Under Output, select your speakers and test the audio. Ensure sample rate matches between input and output devices.
  7. Reset Zoom audio settings. In Zoom settings, go to Audio and click 'Reset to Default' at the bottom of the page. This restores original audio configurations and clears corrupted settings. Test your audio again using the built-in test features. Reconfigure any custom settings you previously used.
