How to Fix Microsoft Teams Camera Not Working

Fix Microsoft Teams camera issues with these proven troubleshooting steps. Resolve permissions, driver problems, and settings conflicts quickly.

  1. Check Teams camera permissions. Open Teams and click your profile picture in the top right corner. Select Settings > Permissions, then ensure Camera is set to Allow. On Windows, also check Windows Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and verify Microsoft Teams is enabled under 'Let apps access your camera'.
  2. Test your camera in Teams settings. In Teams, go to Settings > Devices. Under Camera, select your camera from the dropdown menu. You should see a preview of yourself immediately. If no preview appears or the dropdown shows no cameras, your system isn't detecting the camera properly.
  3. Close other applications using the camera. Exit any applications that might be using your camera, including Skype, Zoom, OBS, or camera apps. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), look for these processes under the Processes tab, and end them. Restart Teams after closing competing applications.
  4. Update your camera drivers. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand Cameras or Imaging devices, right-click your camera, and select Update driver. Choose 'Search automatically for drivers' and let Windows find the latest version. Restart your computer after the update completes.
  5. Run Windows Camera troubleshooter. Open Windows Settings and go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters. Click Camera and select Run the troubleshooter. Follow the prompts to automatically detect and fix common camera problems.
  6. Reset the Windows Camera app. Open Windows Settings and navigate to Apps > Apps & features. Search for 'Camera' and click on the Windows Camera app. Select Advanced options, then click Reset. This clears camera app data and can resolve conflicts with Teams.
  7. Clear Teams cache and restart. Close Teams completely through Task Manager. Press Windows+R, type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams, and press Enter. Delete all files and folders in this directory. Restart Teams and sign back in to rebuild the cache with fresh settings.
