How to Fix Discord Screen Share No Audio

Fix Discord screen share audio issues with step-by-step troubleshooting. Enable application audio, check permissions, and resolve common sound problems.

  1. Enable application audio in Discord. Start your screen share and look for the small camera icon at the bottom left of Discord. Click the monitor icon next to it, then toggle on 'Share system audio' or 'Share application audio'. This setting is often disabled by default and must be manually activated.
  2. Check Discord voice settings. Click the gear icon next to your username to open User Settings. Navigate to Voice & Video in the left sidebar. Ensure your correct microphone and speakers are selected, and that 'Use Legacy Audio Subsystem' is disabled unless you're experiencing other audio issues.
  3. Grant Discord microphone permissions. On Windows, open Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and ensure Discord has permission. On Mac, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy > Microphone and check Discord. Restart Discord after changing these permissions.
  4. Run Discord as administrator (Windows only). Close Discord completely using Task Manager if necessary. Right-click the Discord shortcut and select 'Run as administrator'. This resolves audio capture issues on some Windows systems where Discord lacks sufficient permissions to access application audio.
  5. Update audio drivers. Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button. Expand 'Audio inputs and outputs' and 'Sound, video and game controllers'. Right-click each audio device and select 'Update driver'. Restart your computer after all drivers are updated.
  6. Switch Discord audio subsystem. In Discord User Settings, go to Voice & Video and toggle 'Use Legacy Audio Subsystem' to the opposite of its current state. Click 'Okay' when prompted to restart Discord. Test screen sharing after Discord reopens to see if audio now works.
  7. Share individual applications instead of entire screen. Instead of sharing your entire screen, click the screen share button and select a specific application window. This method often preserves audio better than full desktop sharing and reduces the risk of audio permission conflicts.
