How to Set Up Browser Sync Across Devices

Learn how to sync bookmarks, passwords, and browsing data across all your devices using Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge built-in sync features.

  1. Choose your primary browser. Select the browser you use most frequently as your sync hub. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge all offer robust sync services. Your choice determines which account system you'll use for syncing.
  2. Create or sign into your browser account. Open your chosen browser and sign into your account. For Chrome, use your Google account. Firefox requires a Mozilla account. Safari uses your Apple ID. Edge uses your Microsoft account. Navigate to Settings > Sign in or look for the profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Enable sync on your primary device. Access your browser's sync settings through Settings > Sync. Turn on sync for the data types you want shared: bookmarks, passwords, history, extensions, and preferences. Most browsers enable all options by default, but you can customize which items sync.
  4. Install and sign in on secondary devices. Download your chosen browser on each additional device. Sign in with the same account credentials you used on your primary device. The browser will automatically begin syncing your data within minutes.
  5. Verify sync is working. Create a test bookmark on one device and check if it appears on another device within a few minutes. Open Settings > Sync to see the last sync time and status. A green checkmark or recent timestamp indicates successful synchronization.
  6. Configure sync preferences for each device. Customize what syncs on each device based on your usage patterns. Work computers might exclude personal bookmarks, while personal devices can sync everything. Access these settings through Settings > Sync > Manage sync.
