How to Fix Browser Not Loading Pages
Fix browser loading issues with these proven troubleshooting steps. Clear cache, check connections, disable extensions, and restore browser settings.
- Check your internet connection. Open a different device connected to the same network and try loading a website. If other devices can't connect either, restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. Wait 2-3 minutes for full startup before testing your browser again.
- Clear browser cache and cookies. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Delete (Mac) to open the clear browsing data dialog. Select 'All time' from the time range dropdown, check 'Cached images and files' and 'Cookies and other site data', then click Clear data. Restart your browser after clearing.
- Disable browser extensions. Open your browser in incognito or private mode by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N (Chrome) or Ctrl+Shift+P (Firefox). If pages load normally in private mode, extensions are likely interfering. Return to normal mode and disable all extensions, then re-enable them one by one to identify the problematic one.
- Reset DNS settings. Open Command Prompt as administrator (Windows) or Terminal (Mac). On Windows, type 'ipconfig /flushdns' and press Enter. On Mac, type 'sudo dscacheutil -flushcache' and enter your password. Restart your browser after the command completes to test if pages now load properly.
- Disable antivirus web protection temporarily. Open your antivirus software and look for web protection, real-time scanning, or firewall settings. Temporarily disable these features for 10-15 minutes to test if they're blocking browser connections. If pages load with protection disabled, add your browser to the antivirus whitelist or adjust web filtering settings.
- Reset browser settings to default. Navigate to your browser's settings menu and look for 'Reset and clean up' (Chrome) or 'Troubleshooting Information' (Firefox). Click 'Restore settings to original defaults' or 'Refresh Firefox'. This removes extensions, clears data, and resets all settings while preserving bookmarks and passwords.
- Update or reinstall your browser. Check for browser updates in the settings menu under 'About' or 'Help'. If already updated, completely uninstall the browser, restart your computer, then download and install the latest version from the official website. This eliminates corrupted installation files that might prevent proper page loading.
