How to Test Printer Connectivity on a Windows PC
Verify your printer is correctly configured and communicating with your Windows PC by running a manual print test.
- Check printer connectivity. Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the same network as your PC or attached via a USB cable. Navigate to Settings by pressing Win + I. Select Bluetooth & devices from the left sidebar and click on Printers & scanners.
- Open printer properties. Select your printer from the list within the Printers & scanners menu. Click the Printer properties link, which opens a legacy dialog box. This menu provides the most reliable testing interface for Windows hardware.
- Print a test page. Ensure you are on the General tab within the properties window. Locate the Print Test Page button at the bottom right of the interface. Click this button to send a test data packet to the printer.
- Verify queue status. If the document fails to print immediately, click Open print queue in the printer's settings menu. Check for error messages or paused status flags. If the status reads Error, right-click the item and select Cancel to clear the backlog before retrying.
- Run the diagnostic tool. If the test page does not print, return to the Printers & scanners menu. Scroll down to the Troubleshooting section and select Run the printer troubleshooter. Allow Windows to reset the print spooler service and verify the installed driver integrity.
