How to Turn Off Live Photos on iPhone

Disable Live Photos on your iPhone to save storage and battery. Turn off the feature in Camera settings or for individual photos.

  1. Open the Camera app. Locate and tap the Camera app on your home screen. If you cannot find it, swipe left on the home screen and use the search field to locate Camera.
  2. Find the Live Photos toggle at the top of the screen. Look at the top center of the Camera interface. You will see a circular icon with concentric circles and the label 「Live」 next to it. This is the Live Photos control.
  3. Tap the Live Photos icon to toggle it off. Tap the Live icon at the top of the screen. When Live Photos is active, the icon appears bright and yellow. When you tap it, the icon dims and crosses through with a slash, indicating the feature is now off.
  4. Take photos to confirm Live Photos is disabled. Tap the shutter button to capture a photo. When you view the photo in your Photos app, it will display as a static image only, without motion or sound data attached.
  5. Convert existing Live Photos to standard photos if needed. Open the Photos app and find a Live Photo in your library. Tap Edit in the top right corner. Tap Live at the bottom of the screen. Tap Turn Off in the confirmation menu. Tap Done to save the change. The Live Photo is now saved as a static image, freeing up storage.
  6. Check Settings if you want to disable Live Photos globally. Open Settings and navigate to Camera. Scroll down and look for a Live Photos option. If your iPhone model supports this setting, toggle it off here to prevent Live Photos from being captured across all camera modes automatically. Not all iPhone models display this option in Settings.
