Verifying Application Functionality After Windows Migration

Validate your applications after a Windows PC transfer. Follow these steps to ensure software integrity, license activation, and data path configuration.

1. Check application shortcut integrity. Launch your primary applications using the existing desktop or Start menu shortcuts. If a shortcut fails, navigate to the application's executable file in the C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86) directory to verify the file path.
2. Confirm license activation. Open the Help or About menu within your applications to check license status. Many software licenses are tied to hardware identifiers and will require re-authentication on the new device.
3. Update file path references. Open your application preferences and verify that file paths for databases, scratch disks, or import folders are correct. Transfers often change drive letters or folder structures, leading to file access errors.
4. Perform a read-write test. Create, save, and export a new test file within the application. This confirms that the application has the necessary read-write permissions in the new Windows user profile.
