How to Disable Automatic Window Snapping in Windows 11
Stop Windows from automatically resizing and snapping windows to the corners or sides of your screen by adjusting your Snap Settings.
- Access System Settings. Open the Start menu and select the Settings icon, which resembles a gear. Alternatively, press Windows + I on your keyboard to launch the application directly.
- Locate Multitasking Menu. Select the System tab from the sidebar menu on the left. Click on the Multitasking option in the main panel to view window management configurations.
- Disable Snap Windows. Click the toggle switch next to Snap windows to set it to Off. This action prevents Windows from automatically resizing any window when it is dragged to the edges of the screen.
- Fine-Tune Snap Behavior. If you wish to keep snapping enabled but prevent specific behaviors, click the arrow next to the Snap windows toggle. Uncheck individual boxes such as 'Show snap layouts when I drag a window' or 'When I snap a window, automatically resize it to fill available space' to tailor the experience.
- Test Window Placement. Drag any open application window to the left or right edge of your monitor. The window should no longer snap into a half-screen layout or prompt for a snap grid.
