How to Create a Windows Recovery Drive

Create a bootable Windows recovery drive to troubleshoot and repair your system when Windows fails to start. Follow this step-by-step guide.

  1. Connect the USB flash drive. Insert your USB flash drive into an available port on your computer. Ensure the drive contains no essential data, as the creation process will format the drive and erase all existing files.
  2. Open the Recovery Drive tool. Press the Windows key and type 'Recovery Drive' into the search bar. Select the 'Create a recovery drive' option from the search results to launch the utility.
  3. Select system file backup. Check the box labeled 'Back up system files to the recovery drive' in the wizard window. This enables the drive to reinstall Windows, not just troubleshoot it.
  4. Choose the USB drive. Wait for the system to detect available drives. Select your connected USB flash drive from the list and click 'Next'.
  5. Format and create. Review the summary and click 'Create'. The utility will now format the USB drive and copy the necessary recovery images and boot files to the device.
  6. Complete the process. Click 'Finish' once the notification 'The recovery drive is ready' appears. Safely eject the USB drive from the system tray and store it in a secure location.
