How to Secure Microsoft Edge Tracking Prevention Settings

Configure Microsoft Edge tracking prevention to block trackers, prevent cross-site tracking, and enhance your privacy while browsing the web.

  1. Access Privacy and Services settings. Launch Microsoft Edge. Click the ellipsis icon (...) in the top-right corner of the browser window and select Settings from the dropdown menu. Navigate to the Privacy, search, and services tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Select Strict tracking prevention. Under the Tracking prevention heading, select the Strict radio button. This setting blocks the majority of trackers from all sites and prevents known harmful trackers from loading content on pages you visit.
  3. Enable Do Not Track requests. Scroll down to the Privacy section on the same page. Toggle the switch for 'Send 'Do Not Track' requests' to the On position. This signals websites that you prefer not to have your browsing activities tracked.
  4. Configure ad blocking via extensions. Navigate to the Edge Add-ons store or the Chrome Web Store. Install a reputable open-source ad-blocking extension to supplement Edge's native tracking prevention. Ensure the extension is set to run in Private windows by toggling the 'Allow in InPrivate' setting within the extension management menu.
  5. Clear browsing data upon exit. Within the Privacy, search, and services menu, locate 'Choose what to clear every time you close the browser'. Click the button and enable the toggles for Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files. This ensures your tracking history is purged during every browser session termination.
