How to Customize Touchpad Gestures on Windows 11
Learn to customize precision touchpad gestures on Windows 11 to optimize your workflow and navigation speed.
- Open Touchpad settings. Press the Windows key and type Touchpad settings, then press Enter. This command opens the dedicated input device configuration menu within the System settings.
- Expand the Three-finger gestures menu. Locate the Gestures & interaction section. Click the downward arrow next to Three-finger gestures to reveal the customizable actions for swipes and taps.
- Reassign swipe actions. Select the Swipes dropdown menu. Choose between Window switching, Desktop switching, or Audio and volume controls to map these actions to upward, downward, left, or right swipes.
- Adjust Four-finger gesture mapping. Repeat the previous process for the Four-finger gestures section. Use these gestures for high-level system functions like opening the Action Center or changing virtual desktops.
- Test gesture sensitivity. Adjust the Touchpad sensitivity slider at the top of the menu if your gestures are not registering consistently. Set it to Most sensitive if you prefer light touches, or Least sensitive to prevent accidental input.
- Restore default settings. If the gesture experience becomes erratic, click the Reset button located under the Touchpad section. This reverts all custom gesture mappings to the original Windows factory settings.
