How to Clear System Data and App Storage on Wearables

Reclaim storage space on your smartwatch by clearing cached app data and system logs. Follow these steps to improve performance and responsiveness.

  1. Check current storage usage. On your paired iPhone, open the Watch app and navigate to the My Watch tab. Tap General, then tap Storage to view a breakdown of your device's capacity. Identify which applications are occupying the most space under the Documents & Data section.
  2. Delete unnecessary third-party applications. Return to the My Watch tab and scroll down to the Installed on Apple Watch section. Select an application consuming excessive storage and toggle off Show App on Apple Watch. This action removes the app and its associated local cache from the device immediately.
  3. Clear media library sync. Large music or podcast libraries significantly impact storage. Go to the Watch app, tap Music or Podcasts, and set the sync limit to None or a smaller selection. Syncing the watch to your phone will purge the discarded media files.
  4. Force restart the device. To clear temporary system logs and cached operational data, perform a hard reset. Press and hold both the Digital Crown and the side button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons once the device begins its reboot sequence.
  5. Reset sync data. If System Data remains high, navigate to Watch app settings, tap General, then select Reset. Tap Reset Sync Data to erase the address book and calendar caches stored on the watch. These items will re-sync automatically from your iPhone upon the next connection.
