How to Configure Smart Doorbell Privacy Settings

Secure your smart doorbell data. Learn how to manage activity zones, encryption, and video retention settings to protect your home privacy.

1. Define Privacy Zones. Open your doorbell application and navigate to Device Settings, then select Motion Settings. Choose Edit Privacy Zones to black out areas of the camera view that capture public sidewalks or neighbor properties. Save your changes to ensure the doorbell ignores movement within these masked regions.
2. Enable End-to-End Encryption. Navigate to the Device Health or Security section in your app settings. Locate the Video Encryption tab and toggle on End-to-End Encryption. Follow the on-screen prompts to register a trusted mobile device, which serves as the only key to decrypt your stored video clips.
3. Adjust Video Retention Policy. Access the Video Storage settings in your app's main menu. Modify the storage duration to the shortest interval that meets your security needs, such as 7 or 14 days. Selecting a shorter duration forces the system to auto-delete footage more frequently.
4. Verify Two-Factor Authentication. Go to the Account or Profile section of the application. Select Login Verification and ensure Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is enabled via an authenticator app rather than SMS. This prevents unauthorized access to your account even if your password is compromised.
5. Review Connected Authorized Users. Navigate to Shared Access or Authorized Users in your settings menu. Audit the current list of users who have access to your doorbell stream. Remove any accounts that are no longer active or necessary to minimize potential points of failure.
