How to Review and Manage Smart Camera Permissions

Secure your home network by auditing smart camera privacy permissions on your iPhone or Android device. Step-by-step instructions for access control.

1. Navigate to System Privacy Settings. On iOS, open Settings, scroll down, and tap Privacy & Security. On Android, open Settings, select Apps, and tap Permission Manager to view all active hardware requests.
2. Inspect Microphone and Camera Access. Select the Camera or Microphone category within your privacy settings. Locate your smart camera application in the list and verify the current toggle status. Disable permissions for apps that do not strictly require 24/7 access to these sensors.
3. Review Location Services. Check Location Services to ensure your camera app is not tracking your precise coordinates. If the app supports geofencing for Home/Away modes, set the permission to While Using the App rather than Always.
4. Verify Local Network Access. In your device settings, locate Local Network (iOS) or Connected Devices (Android). Ensure the camera app is only authorized to communicate with known devices on your private subnet. Toggle off any unnecessary broadcast permissions.
5. Test Camera Connectivity. Launch your smart camera application and verify that the video stream still initializes. If the feed fails to load, navigate back to the specific permission you disabled and re-enable it to restore functionality.
