How to Move Your Apple Home Setup to a New Location
Follow these steps to efficiently migrate your Apple Home accessories, scenes, and automations to a new physical location without manual re-configuration.
- Create a new home environment in the Home app. Open the Home app on your iPhone. Tap the More (...) icon in the top-right corner, select Add Home, and enter a name for your new location. This generates a separate data container for the new physical space within your iCloud account.
- Configure the new Wi-Fi network. Connect your iPhone to the new Wi-Fi network. Ensure the network SSID and security protocol are active before attempting to move your HomeKit hubs, such as Apple TV or HomePod, to the new location.
- Relocate your HomeKit Hubs. Physically move your Apple TV or HomePod units to the new location. Power them on and ensure they are connected to the new local network. These devices act as the control bridges for your automated environment.
- Switch the active home context. In the Home app, tap the More (...) icon and select Home Settings. Choose the new home you created in Step 1. Your devices will now begin to register against the new local network environment.
- Re-assign accessories to rooms. If your accessories show as No Response, select the accessory, tap the gear icon, and select Room. Update the room assignments to match the layout of your new residence. HomeKit will automatically map your existing scenes to the re-assigned hardware.
- Remove the old home environment. Once all devices are confirmed operational in the new home, return to Home Settings, select the old home, scroll to the bottom, and tap Remove Home. This action clears the old configuration data from iCloud.
