How to Update Smart Home Device Firmware

Keep your smart home secure and functional. Follow this guide to manually check for and install the latest firmware updates on your connected devices.

  1. Confirm network stability. Ensure the device is connected to a stable 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Firmware updates often fail if the connection drops during the download phase, potentially bricking the device.
  2. Open the manufacturer application. Launch the dedicated app used to control your smart device. Navigate to the Home or Dashboard tab to view your list of connected hardware.
  3. Access device settings. Select the target device from your list to open its specific control panel. Locate the Settings icon, typically represented by a gear or three-dot menu in the top right corner.
  4. Check for firmware version. Search for a menu entry labeled Firmware, Device Info, or Update. Tap this entry to prompt the application to check the manufacturer server for the latest software version.
  5. Install the update. If an update is available, tap Update or Install. Keep the application open in the foreground and do not power off the device during the installation progress bar.
  6. Verify current status. Once the device re-initializes, return to the Firmware section in the device settings. Confirm that the status reads Up to date or displays the latest version number provided by the manufacturer.
