How to Reconnect Smart Home Devices After Changing Wi-Fi
Follow these steps to update your smart home device network settings after changing your Wi-Fi name or password to restore full connectivity.
- Confirm network frequency compatibility. Ensure your router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz network. Most smart home devices do not support 5GHz or 6GHz bands for the initial handshake.
- Reset the smart device to pairing mode. Locate the physical reset button on your device. Hold the button for 5 to 10 seconds until the status indicator light flashes rapidly, indicating the device has cleared its previous network cache.
- Delete the offline device in the app. Open the manufacturer app (e.g., Hue, Kasa, Tuya). Select the device marked as offline, open Settings, and select Remove or Delete Device to clear the broken configuration.
- Initiate new device discovery. Tap the Add Device or plus (+) icon in your smart home application. Follow the on-screen prompts to discover the device that is now flashing in pairing mode.
- Authenticate with new Wi-Fi credentials. Select your new Wi-Fi network from the list provided by the app. Enter the new network password carefully and confirm to push the credentials to the smart device.
