Troubleshooting Presence Automation Failures

Restore reliability to your smart home presence triggers with these diagnostic steps for geolocation, device status, and network synchronization.

  1. Verify global location permissions. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Ensure the toggle for Location Services is green and verify that your specific smart home app is set to Always allow access to your precise location.
  2. Reset the home occupancy status. Open your primary home automation controller app. Manually trigger an 'Away' scene, wait ten seconds, then trigger an 'Arrive' scene to force a state update between your mobile device and the hub.
  3. Validate router network isolation. Confirm that your smart home hub and your smartphone are connected to the same VLAN or subnet. If your network uses an isolated guest network for IoT devices, your phone will fail to communicate occupancy changes to the hub.
  4. Refresh hub firmware cache. Power cycle your smart home hub by disconnecting the power cable for 30 seconds. Upon reboot, the hub will re-establish handshake protocols with all associated presence sensors and connected mobile devices.
  5. Adjust geofence radius sensitivity. If automations trigger too early or late, access the Automation tab in your app and select the Arrive trigger. Expand the radius setting for your home location to compensate for GPS drift or signal latency in high-density environments.
