How to Fix Home App Device Sync Errors

Resolve Home app connectivity issues and force status updates for your smart home accessories with these troubleshooting steps.

  1. Check Home Hub status. Open the Home app and tap the More (...) button in the top-right corner. Select Home Settings, then tap Home Hubs & Bridges. Ensure your HomePod or Apple TV is listed as Connected to maintain the bridge between your devices and your network.
  2. Toggle device Wi-Fi connection. Access Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of your screen. Tap the Wi-Fi icon to disable it, wait five seconds, and tap it again to reconnect. This forces a refresh of the device registration handshake with your local network.
  3. Force Home app refresh. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to enter the App Switcher. Locate the Home app and swipe upward on the preview card to close the process entirely. Relaunch the Home app from your Home Screen to trigger a full state synchronization.
  4. Power cycle unresponsive accessories. Physically disconnect the power supply from the unresponsive smart device. Wait 30 seconds before reconnecting the power to force the hardware to re-establish a handshake with your wireless access point.
  5. Update iCloud Keychain settings. Go to Settings, tap your Name at the top, then tap iCloud. Select Passwords and Keychain and ensure Sync this iPhone is toggled on. If it is already on, toggle it off and back on to re-sync your Home configuration data.
