How to use Split View on Mac
Learn to use Split View on Mac to run two apps side by side. Master window management with drag controls and keyboard shortcuts for better productivity.
- Open the first app you want to use. Launch any app from your Applications folder, Dock, or Spotlight search. The app will open in a standard window that you can resize and move around your desktop.
- Enter full-screen mode. Click the green maximize button in the top-left corner of the app window. Hold your cursor over the button for a moment to see the Split View options appear as a dropdown menu.
- Choose your Split View option. From the dropdown menu, select either "Tile Window to Left of Screen" or "Tile Window to Right of Screen." Your chosen app will occupy half the screen and enter Split View mode.
- Select the second app. Your desktop will now show thumbnails of all other open windows on the remaining half of the screen. Click on the app you want to pair with your first app to complete the Split View setup.
- Adjust the split ratio. Move your cursor to the vertical divider between the two apps until it becomes a resize cursor. Click and drag left or right to adjust how much screen space each app receives.
- Navigate between Split View spaces. Use three-finger swipe left or right on your trackpad to move between different Split View combinations and your regular desktop. Each Split View pairing becomes its own space in Mission Control.
- Exit Split View. Press the Escape key or move your cursor to the top of the screen to reveal the menu bar, then click the green maximize button on either app and select "Exit Full Screen."
