Verifying App Functionality After Mac Migration

A systematic workflow to validate application integrity, data migration, and system permissions after moving your environment to a new Mac.

  1. Check for mandatory software updates. Open the App Store and select Updates from the sidebar. Install all pending updates to ensure apps are optimized for your current version of macOS and your new architecture.
  2. Validate core system permissions. Navigate to System Settings > Privacy & Security. Review sections for Accessibility, Full Disk Access, and Screen Recording to ensure your applications retain the necessary permissions to function as expected.
  3. Execute clean application launches. Launch each primary application individually. Observe the splash screen and initial UI load to identify missing library dependencies or registration errors.
  4. Re-authenticate licensed software. Many professional applications use machine-specific keys or cloud-based licensing that will trigger a re-activation prompt on new hardware. Open the account or license settings within each app to confirm your status is active and verified.
  5. Confirm third-party helper integration. Test plugins, browser extensions, and background daemons. Open the application's Preferences or Settings menu to verify that file paths for external plugins remain correctly pointed to the new library folders.
