How to Restrict Bluetooth Access on macOS
Secure your Mac by limiting Bluetooth access. Learn how to manage device discovery and block unauthorized connections effectively.
- Disable Bluetooth discovery in System Settings. Open the Apple Menu and select System Settings. Navigate to Bluetooth in the sidebar and ensure that your Mac is not actively advertising its presence to unknown nearby devices by toggling off any unnecessary connectivity options.
- Remove unrecognized paired devices. Within the Bluetooth settings menu, review the My Devices list. Click the information icon (i) next to any device you no longer use or do not recognize, and select Forget This Device to revoke its pairing permissions permanently.
- Restrict location services for Bluetooth. Go to Privacy & Security in System Settings, then select Location Services. Scroll down to System Services, click Details, and toggle off Bluetooth networking if you do not want your Mac to report its physical proximity to Apple services.
- Prevent Bluetooth from waking the Mac. Navigate to Bluetooth settings, click Advanced, and ensure that Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer is disabled. This prevents external peripherals from bypassing your lock screen or waking the machine from sleep mode unexpectedly.
- Enable the Bluetooth status in the Menu Bar. In System Settings, go to Control Center and set Bluetooth to Show in Menu Bar. This allows you to monitor active connections instantly and disconnect devices with a single click if you detect suspicious activity.
