How to Transfer Fonts to a New Mac
Follow these steps to safely migrate your custom typography collection to a new macOS device using Font Book and Finder.
- Open the Fonts folder on your current Mac. Open Finder on your source Mac. Select Go > Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press Shift + Command + G. Enter ~/Library/Fonts/ and click Go to open your user-specific font directory.
- Copy your font files to external storage. Select all font files within the folder by pressing Command + A. Copy them using Command + C, then paste them onto an external drive or upload them to your preferred cloud storage service.
- Move font files to your new Mac. Connect your external drive to the new Mac or download your files from the cloud. Place the folder containing your fonts onto the Desktop for easy access during the installation process.
- Import fonts via Font Book. Open the Font Book application on your new Mac from the Applications folder. Select File > Add Fonts... from the menu bar. Navigate to the folder containing your transferred fonts, select them, and click Open.
- Validate your installed fonts. Font Book will automatically prompt you to resolve any duplicates or installation errors. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove older versions or keep both files if necessary.
