Verifying Data Integrity After Mac Migration
Ensure a successful data transfer after Mac Migration Assistant. Follow these steps to verify file integrity, app functionality, and system permissions.
- Verify User Account and File Permissions. Open System Settings and select Users & Groups to confirm your account exists with the correct administrative privileges. Navigate to your Home folder in Finder to ensure your primary subdirectories like Desktop, Documents, and Pictures contain your expected data.
- Validate Critical Application Functionality. Launch your core productivity and creative applications one by one to ensure they initialize without error. If an application fails to launch or requests a serial key, verify its compatibility with your current macOS version and re-authenticate your login credentials.
- Go to System Settings and select your Apple ID to verify that iCloud services like iCloud Drive, Photos, and Keychain are active. Check the status of third-party cloud storage clients, such as Dropbox or OneDrive, to ensure they have resumed syncing files from the server.
- Test Hardware Peripherals and Drivers. Connect your external displays, audio interfaces, and printers to ensure macOS recognizes the hardware correctly. If a device fails to respond, open System Settings, navigate to Printers & Scanners or Sound, and remove and re-add the device to refresh the driver handshake.
- Run Disk Utility to Verify Disk Health. Open Disk Utility from the Applications > Utilities folder. Select your internal disk (Macintosh HD) in the sidebar and click First Aid to perform a scan for any file system errors introduced during the migration process.
