How to Change Your Default Browser on Mac
Set a new default browser on Mac in System Settings. Choose Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or any installed browser as your default.
- Open System Settings. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select System Settings. Alternatively, press Command+Space, type System Settings, and press Return.
- Go to the General pane. In the sidebar on the left, click General. If you don't see a sidebar, click the search icon at the top and type General, then select the General result.
- Find the Default web browser setting. Scroll down in the General pane until you see the section labeled Default web browser. This field displays your current default browser.
- Click the dropdown menu. Click the dropdown button next to your current default browser name. A list of all installed browsers on your Mac will appear. The list includes Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and any other browsers you have installed.
- Select your new default browser. Click the browser you want to set as your default. System Settings applies the change immediately. You do not need to confirm or restart your Mac.
- Confirm the change took effect. Close System Settings. Open an email or message containing a link, and click it. Your new default browser should open automatically. If it does not, close and reopen the browser application, then try again.
