How to Run an iPhone Security Checkup

Secure your iPhone in minutes. Learn how to use Safety Check to audit account access, app permissions, and emergency sharing settings.

  1. Access Safety Check in Settings. Open the Settings app from your Home Screen. Scroll down and tap Privacy & Security, then select the Safety Check option located at the bottom of the list.
  2. Run an Emergency Reset. If you need to immediately stop sharing information with all people and apps, tap Emergency Reset. This action instantly removes all emergency contacts, resets location sharing, and revokes data permissions from third-party apps.
  3. Manage Sharing and Access. Select Manage Sharing & Access to perform a manual audit. This interface allows you to view which people, apps, and devices have access to your data without a global reset.
  4. Review People Access. Tap People to see who you are sharing information with, such as Location or Health data. Select a person from the list and tap Stop Sharing to revoke their access to your information immediately.
  5. Audit App Permissions. Tap Apps to see which installed applications have access to your sensitive data, including Photos, Calendar, and Location. Review the list and select any app to remove its access permissions.
  6. Verify Account Security. Navigate back to the main Safety Check menu and select Quick Exit if you are finished. Ensure that your Apple ID password and device passcode remain private to prevent unauthorized access to your security settings.
