How to Secure Your iPhone Wi-Fi Connections

Protect your iPhone data on public and private networks. Follow these steps to configure Wi-Fi privacy, disable auto-join, and enable MAC randomization.

1. Enable Private Wi-Fi Addresses. Open Settings and tap Wi-Fi. Tap the 'i' icon next to your current network, then toggle on Private Wi-Fi Address. Set this to 'Fixed' for your home network to maintain security without interrupting local device discovery.
2. Disable Auto-Join for Unknown Networks. Navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi. Locate the 'Ask to Join Networks' setting and set it to 'Ask'. This prevents your device from automatically connecting to insecure or known open hotspots without your authorization.
3. Clear Unused Wi-Fi Networks. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi. Scroll down to see your previously joined networks. Tap the 'i' icon next to any network you no longer use, then tap 'Forget This Network' to ensure your iPhone does not attempt to reconnect to it in the background.
4. Activate iCloud Private Relay. Open Settings and tap your Name at the top. Select iCloud, then tap Private Relay. Ensure the toggle is set to On to encrypt your internet traffic and mask your IP address when browsing in Safari.
5. Monitor Wi-Fi Security Recommendations. When connected to a network, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the 'i' icon next to the network name. If the network uses weak security, the iPhone will display a 'Weak Security' alert under the network name. Disconnect immediately if this alert appears.
