How to Audit iPhone Location Sharing
Secure your privacy by auditing which apps and people have access to your real-time location data on iOS 18.
- Review system-wide location services. Open Settings and navigate to Privacy & Security. Tap Location Services to view the master toggle and the list of applications requesting your coordinates. Review the list carefully to ensure every toggle is intentional.
- Restrict app-specific access. Select any application from the list to modify its permission. Set access to Never to fully revoke tracking, or While Using the App for restricted functionality. Disable Precise Location if the application does not require your exact coordinates for its core purpose.
- Audit Find My sharing status. Return to the main Settings menu and tap your Apple Account name at the top. Select Find My, then tap Find My iPhone to verify the primary status. Navigate to the People tab in the Find My app to see who can currently view your location.
- Check Messages conversation sharing. Open the Messages app and select a conversation thread. Tap the contact name at the top of the screen to view the details pane. If you see Share My Location or a map preview, your location is visible to this specific contact.
- Clear Significant Locations. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services. Scroll to Significant Locations to view a history of places you visit frequently. Tap Clear History to erase these records from your device.
