Complete guide to setting up your new iPhone including activation, Apple ID setup, data transfer, and essential configuration steps.
- Power on and select your language. Press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. When the Hello screen appears, swipe up from the bottom. Select your language and region from the lists provided.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or cellular. Tap your Wi-Fi network name and enter the password. If you don't have Wi-Fi access, tap 'Use Cellular Connection' to activate using your carrier's network. Wait for the connection to establish before proceeding.
- Set up Face ID or Touch ID. Position your face in the camera frame and slowly move your head in a circle to complete the first scan. Tap 'Continue' and repeat the process for the second scan. For Touch ID models, place your finger on the home button multiple times from different angles.
- Create a passcode. Enter a six-digit passcode when prompted. Re-enter the same passcode to confirm. For enhanced security, tap 'Passcode Options' to create a custom alphanumeric code or four-digit numeric code.
- Transfer or restore your data. Choose 'Restore from iCloud Backup' if you have a previous backup, 'Restore from Mac or PC' if you use iTunes/Finder backups, or 'Transfer Directly from iPhone' to copy from your old device. Follow the on-screen prompts to sign in and select your backup.
- Sign in with your Apple ID. Enter your Apple ID email and password. If you don't have an Apple ID, tap 'Create Free Apple ID' and follow the prompts. Verify your identity using two-factor authentication when prompted.
- Configure Siri and Screen Time. Choose whether to enable Siri by tapping 'Enable Siri' or 'Set Up Later.' Record the requested phrases if you enable Siri. Set up Screen Time limits or tap 'Set Up Later in Settings' to configure parental controls and app usage tracking later.
- Finish setup and update iOS. Tap 'Get Started' to complete the initial setup process. Open Settings > General > Software Update to check for and install the latest iOS version. Connect to a charger if the battery is below 50% before updating.
