How to Secure Your Apple ID on iPhone
Follow these steps to lock down your Apple ID. Enable two-factor authentication, audit active devices, and secure your account recovery methods.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication. Open Settings and tap your name at the top of the menu. Select Sign-In & Security, then tap Two-Factor Authentication. If it is currently off, follow the on-screen prompts to verify a trusted phone number and enable the feature.
- Review Active Devices. In the same Sign-In & Security menu, scroll down to see the list of devices currently signed into your Apple ID. Tap any device you no longer recognize or use, select Remove from Account, and confirm the action.
- Change Your Apple ID Password. Tap Change Password within the Sign-In & Security menu. Enter your current iPhone passcode, then input a new, unique password that you do not use on any other website. Ensure the password meets Apple's complexity requirements.
- Set Up Account Recovery. Return to the Sign-In & Security screen and select Account Recovery. Tap Add Recovery Contact to designate a trusted friend or family member who can help you regain access to your account if you are ever locked out.
- Configure Advanced Data Protection. Go to Settings, tap your name, then tap iCloud. Scroll to the bottom and select Advanced Data Protection. Tap Turn On Advanced Data Protection and follow the setup flow to enable end-to-end encryption for your iCloud backups, photos, and notes.
