How to Restore Your iPhone from an iCloud Backup
Restore your iPhone to a previous state using iCloud. Follow these steps to erase your device and download your data from a saved backup.
- Erase all content and settings. To restore from a backup, the iPhone must be in the initial setup state. Navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, then select Erase All Content and Settings. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm and wait for the device to restart to the Hello screen.
- Initiate the setup process. Power on your iPhone to reach the Hello screen. Swipe up or press the Home button to begin the setup flow. Select your language and region, then configure your accessibility options or choose Set Up Manually.
- Establish a network connection. Select a stable Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Do not use cellular data for this process, as it is unstable for large restores. Tap Next to allow the device to activate.
- Sign in with your Apple ID. Follow the prompts to set up Face ID or Touch ID, or select Set Up Later. When you reach the Apps & Data screen, select Restore from iCloud Backup. Enter your Apple ID and password to proceed.
- Choose your backup file. Review the list of available backups. Select the most recent version by checking the date and size of the file. Tap the backup to initiate the download and restoration process.
- Finalize the restoration. Stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep your iPhone plugged into a power source. The progress bar will indicate the time remaining. Once finished, the iPhone will restart and begin downloading your apps and photos in the background.
