How to Fix iPhone Screen Brightness Issues

Resolve automatic brightness glitches, adaptive display issues, and persistent dimming on your iPhone with these manual calibration steps.

  1. Disable Auto-Brightness. Open Settings and navigate to Accessibility. Select Display & Text Size, then toggle Auto-Brightness to the off position to determine if the sensor is miscalibrated.
  2. Review True Tone Settings. Go to Settings, select Display & Brightness, and toggle True Tone to off. This prevents the display from dynamically adjusting color temperature based on ambient lighting conditions.
  3. Deactivate Night Shift. Within the Display & Brightness menu, select Night Shift. Ensure Scheduled is set to off and manually toggle Off for 'Manually Enable Until Tomorrow' to prevent warm color biasing that may appear as low brightness.
  4. Disable Reduce White Point. Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Scroll to the bottom and ensure Reduce White Point is toggled off; if enabled, drag the slider to 0% to restore maximum luminescence.
  5. Perform a Force Restart. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the Side button. Continue holding until the Apple logo appears to clear temporary display drivers.
  6. Reset All Settings. Navigate to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Select Reset All Settings to return display preferences to factory defaults without erasing your personal data.
