Fix iPhone Battery Draining Too Fast

Stop your iPhone battery from draining quickly. Identify power-hungry apps, adjust settings, and extend battery life with these proven fixes.

  1. Check Battery Health in Settings. Open Settings, tap Battery, then Battery Health & Charging. Review the Maximum Capacity percentage. If it's below 80%, your battery has degraded and needs service. Normal drain is 1% every few minutes under light use. If you're losing 5% or more per minute at rest, proceed to identify power-hungry apps.
  2. Locate Apps Using the Most Battery. Go to Settings > Battery. Scroll to see which apps consumed the most energy over the last 24 hours or 10 days—toggle between these views. Any app using more than 20% of your battery in one day is a candidate for troubleshooting. Note the top three offenders.
  3. Disable Background App Refresh for Heavy Consumers. Open Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Toggle off the switch next to apps identified in Step 2. This stops them from running tasks when you're not actively using them. Start with the top battery drainer, then disable it for other apps you don't need refreshing constantly.
  4. Turn Off Location Services for Apps That Don't Need It. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Review each app listed and change its location permission from Always to Never or While Using. Restrict location access for social media, shopping, and entertainment apps. Keep it enabled only for Maps, Weather, and Find My.
  5. Activate Low Power Mode. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center. Press and hold the battery icon (or tap the battery percentage). Tap Low Power Mode. Your iPhone will reduce performance, limit background activity, and extend battery life by approximately 25%. This is especially useful when battery is below 20%.
  6. Reduce Display Brightness and Enable Auto-Brightness. Open Settings > Display & Brightness. Enable Auto-Brightness to let your iPhone adjust screen brightness based on ambient light. Manually set brightness to 30–40% for daily use. If your display battery usage is unusually high (more than 30% in Settings > Battery), your screen may be malfunctioning and require service.
  7. Monitor Battery Drain After Changes. Use your iPhone normally for two hours with the changes applied. Check Settings > Battery to see if drain rate has improved. Expected result is 1–2% loss per 30 minutes during light use. If drain persists above 5% per 30 minutes, restart your iPhone by holding the power button, sliding to power off, then pressing power again to turn it back on.
