How to Fix an Apple ID Sign-in Loop on iPhone
Resolve persistent Apple ID sign-in loops on your iPhone with these manual troubleshooting steps for iOS settings and network configurations.
- Force restart the iPhone. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. This forces the iOS kernel to drop hung background processes, which often clears temporary authentication glitches.
- Check Apple System Status. Navigate to the official Apple System Status page in Safari. Ensure that Apple ID, iCloud Account, and Sign In services are marked with a green icon. If these services are currently undergoing maintenance, wait until the status returns to operational before attempting further sign-ins.
- Reset network settings. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Select Reset Network Settings. This removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and cellular configurations, forcing the device to re-establish a clean handshake with authentication servers.
- Force a Date and Time refresh. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Toggle Set Automatically off, wait ten seconds, then toggle it back on. An incorrect time synchronization prevents the encrypted handshaking required for Apple ID authentication.
- Sign out and sign back in. Navigate to Settings > [Your Name]. Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password if prompted to disable Find My. Once signed out, restart the device, return to Settings, and tap Sign in to your iPhone to re-enter your credentials.
- Update iOS to the latest version. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now. Persistent loops are often linked to bugs in older iOS versions that are resolved in subsequent patches.
