How to Fix an iPhone That Will Not Turn On

Follow this step-by-step procedure to troubleshoot and resolve power issues on an unresponsive iPhone using hard resets and forced charging.

  1. Perform a forced restart. Press and release the Volume Up button. Press and release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears on the display, then release.
  2. Charge the device. Connect your iPhone to a known-working power adapter using a certified cable. Allow the device to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power it on again.
  3. Inspect the charging port. Examine the charging port for debris, lint, or dust using a flashlight. If debris is present, use a non-conductive wooden toothpick or anti-static brush to gently clear the port.
  4. Utilize Recovery Mode. Connect the iPhone to a Mac or PC. Open Finder or iTunes, then perform the button sequence from Step 1 but keep holding the Side button until the Recovery Mode screen appears.
  5. Perform a factory restore. If the Update fails in Recovery Mode, select Restore in Finder or iTunes. This will erase the device completely and reinstall the latest compatible version of iOS.
