How to Fix AirPods Not Connecting to iPhone

Troubleshoot connectivity issues between your AirPods and iPhone with these manual reset and configuration steps.

  1. Verify Bluetooth status. Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Bluetooth. Ensure the toggle is set to On and confirm that your AirPods do not appear under My Devices as 'Not Connected'. If they are listed, tap the 'i' icon and select Forget This Device.
  2. Clean the charging contacts. Ensure the AirPods are seated correctly in the charging case. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the metal contact points on the bottom of each AirPod and inside the case to ensure a proper power connection.
  3. Perform a factory reset. Place both AirPods in the charging case with the lid open. Locate the setup button on the back of the case and press and hold it until the status light on the front flashes amber, then white.
  4. Re-pair the AirPods. Hold the open charging case next to your unlocked iPhone. A setup animation will appear on the screen; follow the on-screen prompts to establish a new connection.
  5. Test the audio output. Open Control Center on your iPhone by swiping down from the top-right corner. Tap the AirPlay icon in the Media Controls card and select your AirPods from the list to force the routing of audio.
