How to Fix AirDrop When It Fails on iPhone
Restore AirDrop functionality on your iPhone with these troubleshooting steps. Fix discovery issues, transfer errors, and connection failures.
- Adjust AirDrop visibility settings. Open Settings and navigate to General > AirDrop. Select Everyone for 10 Minutes to ensure the device is discoverable by all nearby contacts. If the target device is in your Contacts, ensure Contacts Only is selected on both devices.
- Toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center. Tap the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons to disable them, wait five seconds, then tap them again to enable both. AirDrop requires both services to establish a handshake between devices.
- Disable Personal Hotspot. AirDrop cannot function while an active Personal Hotspot is broadcasting. Navigate to Settings > Personal Hotspot and toggle Allow Others to Join to the off position.
- Disable Focus modes. Open Control Center and verify that Do Not Disturb or any other Focus mode is inactive. These modes often suppress incoming AirDrop requests to prevent interruptions.
- Restart your iPhone. Press and hold the side button and either volume button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider to shut down the device, wait 30 seconds, then hold the side button to restart. A system reboot clears temporary cache conflicts affecting wireless protocols.
