How to Use Quick Note on iPad

Master iPad's Quick Note feature to capture ideas instantly from any app. Learn gestures, Apple Pencil shortcuts, and organization tips for maximum productivity.

  1. Enable Quick Note in Settings. Open Settings and tap Apple Pencil. Toggle on Only Apple Pencil or Apple Pencil and Finger under Quick Note. This determines whether you need the Apple Pencil or can use your finger to activate Quick Note from screen corners.
  2. Create a Quick Note from any app. Swipe up from the bottom right corner of your iPad screen with your finger or Apple Pencil. A small Notes window appears over your current app. Start typing or writing immediately — no need to tap anything first.
  3. Add links to your current app. Tap the link button in the Quick Note toolbar to automatically add a link to whatever you were viewing. This creates a connection between your note and the source material, whether it's a website, document, or email.
  4. Write with Apple Pencil. Use your Apple Pencil to write directly in the Quick Note. Your handwriting converts to searchable text automatically. Draw diagrams, sketch ideas, or mix handwriting with typed text seamlessly.
  5. Organize with tags and folders. Add hashtags by typing # followed by your tag name. Tap the folder icon to move your note to a specific folder. Use the share button to send your Quick Note to other apps or people immediately.
  6. Access Quick Notes later. Open the Notes app and tap the Quick Notes folder to see all your captured notes. Use the search function to find notes by content, tags, or linked apps. Your Quick Notes sync across all your Apple devices automatically.
