How to Scan Documents on iPad

Digitize physical documents instantly using your iPad. Follow these steps to scan, save, and share high-quality PDFs using the native Files and Notes apps.

  1. Open the Notes app. Launch the Notes app from your Home Screen or Dock. Tap the Compose icon in the top right corner to create a new note, or select an existing note where you want to insert the document.
  2. Access the camera interface. Tap the Camera icon located in the toolbar above the keyboard. Select the 'Scan Documents' option from the pop-up menu to activate the scanning interface.
  3. Scan the document. Position your document within the camera frame. The iPad will automatically detect and capture the document boundaries; if it does not, tap the Shutter button manually to capture the frame.
  4. Adjust corners and filters. Tap the thumbnail of the scan to review it. Use the corner handles to adjust the crop boundaries if the automatic detection is inaccurate, then tap 'Done' to return to the scanning session.
  5. Save the document. Tap 'Save' in the bottom right corner once all pages have been captured. The document will be embedded directly into your note as a PDF file.
  6. Share your scan. Tap the Share icon at the top of the note to send the file via Mail, Messages, or save it directly to the Files app. Select 'Export as PDF' to finalize the file format for third-party compatibility.
