How to Restore an iPad Without Losing Data
Learn how to restore your iPad to factory settings and recover your data using iCloud or local computer backups effectively.
- Perform a manual backup. Connect your iPad to a stable Wi-Fi network. Navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now to ensure your current state is securely captured before proceeding.
- Connect to a computer. Connect your iPad to your Mac using Finder or your PC using iTunes via a high-quality USB-C cable. If prompted on the iPad screen, select Trust This Computer and enter your device passcode.
- Locate device settings. In Finder, select your iPad from the Locations sidebar. In iTunes, click the device icon located near the top left corner of the window. Navigate to the General tab to view your device management options.
- Initiate the restore process. Click the Restore iPad button. Confirm your choice when prompted, noting that this action will erase all current data on the device. Allow the system to download the latest iPadOS software package and reinstall the firmware.
